Styling a mini leather skirt

rain2

A mini skirt, nothing new on the horizon, I am aware, however I wanted to say that I really used to avoid this type of skirts because I felt they were too simple and my fascination for the retro 1950's knee length skirts was over the roof so that didn't help, but not long ago I began looking at mini skirts in a different light.
Now, I still love circle skirts, they will always be my favorite thing to wear and this leather skirt you see it here is not new, but I love the shape of it and how it looks, so I wanted to dedicate an article to it, share with you my thoughts and maybe some guidance on how to style such a piece.

 1. Make sure the skirt is made of thick leather (of course it can be faux leather) the idea is that there are faux leather fabrics that are lighter and cheap that it will simply crack and break in time - this will create a cheap look that will do no good.

2. Wear it with short sweaters that stop just about your waistline, it creates a very chic and fun look as opposed to the classic shirt/sweater tucked inside the skirt.

 3. Over the knee boots are a must-have these days, they are the perfect match for any mini skirt and I am a big fan as well, however, today I wanted to wear them with a pair of ankle boos, mainly because it's March and well... my boots are locked up in my closet until December.

 4. Pair it with a jacket that stops at your waistline - this option will make your skirt the center piece of  your outfit. Or, longer jackets or coats work just as fine, depending on what look you are aiming for.

Black, white and gold

black white and gold2

It's Sunday and I am so glad that we are having such a lovely weather here in Cluj, while elsewhere in the country people are freezing under the snow. Living in a region guarded by the mountains has its benefits. Even so, we are not ready to give up our coats and boots but at least we have sunny warmer afternoons and golden sunsets; which is the perfect recipe for a satisfying photoshoot.

After a few days in a very windy Bucharest, followed by a snow storm (which of course caught me unprepared, my feet were frozen and I had four layers of clothing on me) I returned home with a smile on my face, happy that I got to see a few of my friends there, eat wonderful desserts at my favorite pastry shops and walked around the same streets I walked three years ago while I was a student there. It felt a bit melancholic, but good.
That is mainly the reason for my disappearance, but I only managed to leave the house yesterday while it was still sunny (it sounds like I am a rat that hates daylight, but I actually had to do a lot of errands and work). We took these photos before our dinner and a disastrous dessert - a Millefeuille is not made out of an ordinary whipped cream and a cheap chocolate sauce , that's all I'm sayin'!
There is nothing more that I hate than to spend money on a food or sweet that has no taste, but oh well, that is how you learn.

I hope you had a relaxed weekend guys! Let's hope for a relaxed week as well.

Chiffon and leather

chiffon and leather3

Long time no see! I've been busy travelling back to my hometown, visiting my relatives and dealing with the strange weather that made me feel so uninspired and quite lazy.
Hopefully I will be back with new ideas, for now I am showing you the outfit I wore yesterday in the evening while walking around the empty streets. There was a time when mixing leather and light fabrics, such as chiffon or silk, was a "wow!" or a big "no-no" depending on each individual.
For me, it was a big "yes!" and I wear this combo even now. I just love the contrast and you know, it's one of those contrasts that feels good and looks even better!
 What do you think?

They say it's the end of Winter

28 7

Today I am gloomy, just like the weather outside. Just when I thought sunny and warm days will be ahead some rain and clouds decided to show up and put my Spring wishes on hold. Tomorrow we should celebrate the first day of Spring - in theory at least - so, if the cold continues to persist, I think I'm going to buy myself hyacinths and tulips and have my own little Spring in my house!
In the meantime, I will stick to cardigans, scarves and all types of layers for this weird transition season which I am getting sick of. Who's with me?

The unknown coat

3922 3

Let's talk about brands! I started thinking about how saturated the streets are with popular brands like Zara, Stradivarius, H&M and such, the moment I bought this navy coat. Don't get me wrong, I love Zara and H&M, I have many items from their collections and sometimes I have the urge to buy an entire collection that's how much I love their designs, but certain pieces are just EVERYWHERE and that is what annoys me the most.
I just always want to have this special sensation of feeling unique when I am wearing something I love and that doesn't happen very often. However, I when I was out with my mom in town, just browsing around for random stuff, my mom actually saw this coat and she insisted that I should try it on - get this, it was the last one and exactly in my size! - so if course, I couldn't resist the design, the cut, the color and how well it looked on me so I had to take it, so this is all her fault!

If it weren't for her, I would have never entered that store, you know why? Because it's not a popular store, it's just a shop that sells clothing in all kinds of styles, mostly office, slightly boring, then you see a modern and yet retro coat like this one! I mean, there are so many surprises in little shops like these and I know we young folk mostly avoid them because they are not popular and most of us want what everyone else has - I really don't get that.

So this coat is made in Ukraine, I barely found the brand on the web, you can check it out HERE if you want, but the site is in...Ukrainian, of course.  They seem to have some pretty cool designs though.
Oh and the boots, they are from Giulio, manufactured in Italy, they are made of leather and the quality is awesome, again, I found them in a random shop and I also found a website HERE. I see you can purchase them online, but unfortunately they don't have that many models.

So, in conclusion to this long post, don't avoid random shops, sometimes they can be more expensive than Zara TRF, but you can find so many awesome stuff that can make you feel a bit different than others, because they don't have a mass production so there are only a few pieces in certain sizes, thus the chances of running into another person on the street, wearing the same outfit as you, are much more slimmer.

How do you feel about these so called "random brands" ?

Off the shoulder sweater

004 7

I don't know about you, but I love it when I see any piece of clothing that shows off the shoulders, no matter if it's a dress, a top or a sweater. So imagine my joy when I found this sweater at a ridiculous price of $5 in an outlet shop back in January!
No, the weather was not all that warm, but I couldn't wait any longer to take some photos with it. It feels so warm and looks so feminine, you can wear it like I do, or with the collar on the side or even to the back, showing off some skin, it's so versatile.
I just love a design that can be worn in many different ways and when it matches so many other items in different styles, don't you?

 Have a warm Sunday guys!

Another year at its end

00 11 4

It seems Winter decided to come after all in my hometown. I woke up the other morning and I saw snow, everywhere! I am currently out of town, there is no snow here, but the temperature has dropped considerably, I really am not used to it anymore, it feels strange.
And it also, feels a bit uneasy to think about how fast another year has just passed, tomorrow we will be dreaming of new opportunities, new changes to make or if you're like me, you'll think about what new things to buy in the near future. I am kidding, I am not that much of a spender (I hope so).
In other words, I don't have a typical "what to wear on New Years Eve post" because I really haven't decided what to wear yet! I have to make some appetizers first and then think about what to wear - I think I'll go for something casual this year, not feeling very fancy, but who knows.

So, I wish you a very Happy New Year, loads of fun and I hope I'll see you in 2016!
